About TamarrisArt
Biography
I was born in Yorkshire then relocated to Derbyshire whilst still a child. In a previous life I trained and worked as a dental hygienist. Life events led me to re-evaluate my life and follow my heart. I had always been creative and decided to follow my passion for art. I studied at the Cyprus College of Art from 2004- 2007 and continue to develop my work by attending portrait and life drawing sessions along with other workshops. I work from my studio in Derbyshire and create original artworks and undertake commissioned work. I am currently also developing a range of art jewellery pendants using small original paintings and scaled down prints of my work.
I have exhibited in Cyprus and the UK and my work is held in private collections in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia. My work is currently exhibited in a number of web based galleries and paintings are also available for purchase directly from my website. I hope to continue this wonderful journey into the world of art and I am so thankful to have the opportunity to follow my heart and passion.
Artist’s Statement
My abstract paintings are inspired by elements in the natural world; patterns in the bark of a tree, wave patterns on a beach, natural textures, geological formations, microscopic images of cells and satellite images of stars and planets . I use mediums and collage to create texture in my work and may use metallic paints and metal leaf to add drama and dimension to a painting. Sometimes I start with a particular idea in my head – be it colour, shape or texture and then work with that unconsciously on the painting surface and just allow the painting to happen. I then tweak the artwork with more layers, collage and glazes until I am happy with the final result.
Most of my figurative paintings occur in a similar way in that I add paint and colours intuitively on to the surface and then reflect on what I can see in the painting (or what the painting wants to reveal to me). This then forms the basis of my composition. I may see faces, figures or objects and then work with these images to allow the painting to reveal itself. On other occasions I will work directly from the subject or sketches and photographs.
I take a very expressive approach to the rest of my work in portrait, landscape, seascape and still life painting. Colour, pattern and texture always seem to find their way into my art. I am always happy to experiment with mark making and have a dialogue with the painting as it progresses to allow the work the freedom to become what it wants to be.
